Mariano Torres, Managing Director of Octagon Football (Soccer) Worldwide, has successfully expanded the agency’s global football capabilities, including the representation of world-class football players.
In 2000, Torres helped found Globosport SL, a Spanish marketing and management agency specializing in the representation of football (soccer) players. Three years later, another sports agency, U1st Sports Group, incorporated his company into its portfolio. He continued his work with soccer players while at U1st Sports, distinguishing himself as an accomplished talent evaluator who simultaneously led the agency’s international expansion. While there, he crafted the agreement that brought free agent Jose Julian de la Cuesta, of Colombia, to Spain’s Cádiz CF. This move set the precedent for other South American players to freely change teams following the expiration of their contracts.
A native of Seville, Spain and a graduate of UC Madrid University with a degree in Economics and Business, Torres earned his Players Agent certification with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Before entering the sports industry, he served as a Financial Executive Advisor specializing in private banking and corporate finance for domestic and international consulting firms in Spain and the USA.
